     Dear Maplemere Families:

Welcome to Maplemere Elementary School for the 2020-2021 school year.  While we are expecting to have many changes to the way our building operates, one constant will remain that “every child will have a champion.”  This year our single greatest priority will be the health and safety of every member of our school community.  We have a “Day in the Life Video” &  Q & A recorded Town Hall Meeting, access several district/building documents outlining our reopening procedures & protocols.

    Bus Transportation:

Bus transportation will be provided for all families who indicated they needed it through our initial district survey/registration.  For the first few days allow a little leeway, as our drivers are very careful that each and every student is where they should be.  A few days before school you will receive a postcard from the Sweet Home Transportation office verifying your child’s bus information.  Any transportation issue should be directed to (716) 250-1436.  Children will be picked up in front of their homes.   Please note we have enclosed a special transportation request form for any special arrangements.  Each family is permitted one alternative stop within the district boundaries.  A new protocol that will be put in place this year is that we will not be accepting changes to these special bus requests during the school day.  To ensure the safety of our students and transportation staff, we can not make changes to bus assignments (including special bus requests).  Also, a new transportation form needs to be filled out every year.  Any arrangements for student drop off from last year are not stored within our system for this year.

    AM Arrival Procedures:

If your child(ren) will be driven to school, you will use the parent drop off at the side of the building.  All parent drop offs and pickups will be located here.  No cars are allowed in the bus drop off zone during the morning.  If your child will be late, please ring the bell and we will have a school representative come to door #1 to sign the student in.  Students who enter the building after 8:40 am are considered tardy and will need to be signed in by a guardian.

If you are picking up your child early you will need a written note with this information.  When you arrive please park in a visitors parking space in the front of the building.  Students who are picked up by a parent or guardian will be assigned a number.  That number will also be given to the family to display in their car window.  Please be sure to have that number visible for our staff members to be able to identify.  Those families who have blended families and have multiple guardians picking up their child will be assigned a different color to ensure each student is leaving the building with the appropriate family member.

The security and safety of your child is our greatest priority.  When picking up or dropping off a student you will need to buzz in at door #1 and a main office staff member will meet you at the door.  You will be responsible for providing identification for our RAPTOR system.  Parents & Guardians should always be masked.  Until further notice, our building will not be admitting any parents, volunteers, or outside community members during the school day.  Only school personnel will be permitted into the building.  Thank you for your cooperation as we navigate the challenges of COVID-19.

    Child Care

If you are interested in after-school care for your child, please contact the YMCA at (716) 276-8305.

    Cafeteria/Meal Service

Sweet Home Central School District is pleased to inform our families that each of our schools will be implementing a meal certification option through the National School Lunch & Breakfast program.  This program provides EVERY child with a healthy breakfast and lunch during school at no charge.  No further action is required by our families.  PLEASE NOTE: Our district will be nut-free in all of our elementary schools.  Please do not pack food items that include peanuts, tree nuts, etc. Further questions on this program or school meals can be addressed to our new Food Service Supervisor Kristi Sajdak at (716) 250-1446 or ksajdak@sweethomeschools.org.

We want to keep the lines of communication open between our school and your home.  If at any time, you have questions or concerns, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Our web page is also updated regularly with important information.  Please be sure to contact our main office staff when there are changes to contact information for parents & guardians.  It is critical in the event of an emergency that we have accurate phone numbers, email, and addresses.

    Technology Use

This year every student will be given a district issued iPad.  All families must complete a returned acceptable use form by families.  We plan to use these devices as an educational tool.  Our building plans on creating a digital citizenship component to our district curriculum.  Students will be sent home with a device every day.  It is critical that these are returned to school every day for instructional purposes.  Our building (K-5) will be using the communication platform SeeSaw SCHOOL.  Our primary grades will be using the Learning Management System SeeSaw, while our intermediate grades (3-5) will continue to use Schoology.
